HPS Covid-19 Opening Changes
Classroom Structure
OSSE, following CDC guidelines, has changed child-to-teacher ratios to 4:1 and is requiring that there is no intermingling of students or teachers over the course of the day. A limit of 10 people will be permitted per space. This means our classrooms will be limited to 8 children and 2 teachers each.
We will transition to:
Caterpillar classrooms: Two classrooms of 8
Bumblebees: Single classroom of 7
Butterfly: Two classrooms, one of 7 and one of 8
Grasshoppers: Two classes of 8
Remodel Multi-purpose room as one classroom with the addition of a bathroom directly in the space.
Remodel currently rented but yet unused spaces on the back hallway as the second Grasshopper classroom. Using the current storage closet in the hallway to add the second required bathroom.
Staff
To accommodate new requirements, HPS will be three new teachers.
Schedule, Drop-off & Closures
Hours of operation will be 8 am - 5 pm, Monday through Friday, to allow the same teaching team to open and close their classroom. Students in the few 8-1 and 8-3 spots in the program will be able to retain them.
Students will be picked up and returned to parents and caregivers by staff outside of the school main entrance. Entry into the building will be as limited as possible to assure the fewest interactions.
The school will follow the District of Columbia Government should there be any large-scale stay-at-home orders, We will communicate with families as we learn more about opening and closing procedures.
Student Health
Checks
Students will be required to submit to a brief health screening at daily entry of the school. Students must continue to meet health requirements for entry throughout the school day.
Students who do not meet the required health thresholds will not be permitted to attend class that day. The duration of any such exclusion period shall be determined by HPS in its sole discretion
