Each of the four classrooms has a lead teacher working alongside assistant teachers to foster age and developmentally appropriate learning environments and experiences for the children.

Ms. Diamond Powell
Lead Teacher of the Caterpillar Purple Group. Diamond has significant experience teaching two year-olds, as well as infants and toddlers. She holds a Child Development Associate Credential and is working to complete her Associate's degree in Early Childhood Education at North Hampton Community College. As an educator, Diamond describes herself as compassionate, devoted, and knowledgeable. She has been a wonderful addition to our Caterpillar teaching team.
Ms. Keyonta Silas
Lead Teacher of the Caterpillar Blue Group. She holds a Child Development Associate Credential and is finishing her degree in Early Childhood Education at Central Texas University. Most recently, Keyonta worked as an Age-Level Coordinator for an infant program. She has worked for over ten years teaching two year-olds, toddlers, and infants. She is known for her nurturing relationships with children and has a genuine passion for providing high quality care and education for the youngest learners.
Ms. Brenda Cowles
Assistant Teacher of the Caterpillar Purple Group. Her flexibility and warm energy is always noted and greatly appreciated by families and staff alike! She is looking forward to gaining additional early childhood knowledge and growing professionally as she completes her Child Development Associate Credential. Previously, Ms. Brenda was the Multi-Age Assistant Teacher, providing a critical link in ensuring the success of each classroom.
Ms. Pamela Thomas
Assistant Teacher of the Caterpillar Blue Group. She has years of experience in the early childhood field and has worked with a wide-range of age groups from infants to preschoolers. Pamela has lived in a variety of locations over the years and has enjoyed various cultural experiences and the diverse people she has met through her travels. Pamela's husband has recently retired from the military, and she is thrilled to be back in the DC area where she spent her early years.

Ms. Afryea Deas
Lead Teacher for the Bumblebee Classroom. She came to The Hill Preschool from Brooklyn, New York where she spent the last 15 years working in the Early Childhood field. She has worked as a teacher, director, and expressive art therapist. Afryea holds a B.A. in Liberal Arts with a concentration in Human Services from City College of New York. Back in 1996, Afryea worked as an assistant teacher at HPS when she was first starting out in the field. We are excited to welcome her back!
Ms. Tatianna Peak
Bumblebee Assistant Teacher. She has been with HPS for the past 5 years working with a variety of age groups. She currently holds a 90 hour child care certificate combined with several years of classroom experience. Ms. Tatianna is currently completing her Child Development Associate Credential. She is best known for her positive outlook and passion.
Ms. Dewi Fallon
Bumblebee Assistant Teacher. She has worked with a variety of age groups throughout her tenure at HPS over the past 15 years. Originally from Thailand, Dewi can often be heard singing traditional songs from her native country with the children. Dewi is known throughout the school for her steadfast and quiet nature.

Ms. Tasha Brown
Butterfly Lead Teacher. She holds a Child Development Credential Certificate in preschool and has currently earned her Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education at Trinity Washington University. Tasha is very passionate about the field and truly enjoys the rewards of teaching young children. She is committed to staying current in the field of ECE in order to create fun, educational and developmentally appropriate learning environments for her students. She absolutely loves music, dancing, storytelling and bringing stories to life!
Ms. Charlett Hodgson
Butterfly Assistant Teacher. She has been an assistant teacher at HPS for 7 years. As a native from Nicaragua, Charlotte brings her love of her native language and culture to the students of HPS. She is highly energetic and thoroughly enjoys the fast paced environment of the classroom.

Ms. Jill Barefoot
Grasshopper Lead Teacher. She holds a B.A. in Anthropology and Sociology from Florida International University. She also holds a Child Development Credential for preschool. Jill's teaching style is greatly influenced by the Reggio Emilia philosophy. She loves integrating elements of nature and real world materials into the classroom! Jill also has a passion for providing young children with opportunities to explore their creativity, and has turned one side of the Grasshopper Classroom into an atelier!
Ms. Jan Lane
Grasshopper Assistant Teacher. She has experience teaching 4 and 5 year old children and is currently in her senior year majoring in Political Science and International Relations at Boise State University. In Jan's free time she loves to travel and goes to one new country every year. She has most recently lived and worked in New Zealand. Jan has a passion for providing meaningful art experiences for young children, as well as interactive curriculum experiences.

Ms. Nicole (Nicky) Boyers
Multi-Age Level Assistant Teacher. She is actively working towards completing her Child Development Associate Credential with a focus in preschool development. Nicole has several years of experience working with children of all ages; primarily with preschoolers for the past five years!
